The 12th annual Chicago SummerDance has begun. This 11-week FREE festival is located in Grant Park. Each of the 43 days is composed of a lesson in social/cultural dance, followed by two hours of live music and open dancing under the stars. Be sure to make your way to Harrison and State Street Thursdays-Sundays through August 24th.

June 1st marks the anniversary of DanceWorks Chicago's birth and the date of their debut performance. Lovers of dance are encouraged to support by coming to the rehearsal and/or live performance. In a matter of a couple months, the dancers have learned 10 new pieces and will perform a few of the original works this evening.

ABC's hit show has returned for a sixth season. Twelve couples are facing off the 2008 Dancing with the Stars show. Six guy celebrities premiered on Monday while the six lady celebrities danced away Tuesday night.

Legendary choreographer Gus Giordano has passed away at the age of 84. He lived a life dedicated to dance and leaves behind hundreds of students and friends spread throughout the world.
Giordano is known for making jazz dance a recognized and respected genre. He began the first Jazz Dance World Congress in 1990 and founded Giordano Dance Chicago.

On Monday, February 11, and Monday, February 18, DWC will host free dance workshops for high school students from 9:30a.m.-1:30 p.m. Workshops will consist of company class with DWC led by Artistic Director, Julie Nakagawa at 9:30 a.m., followed by a musical theatre class led by Kenny Ingram (currently on tour with Disney’s The Lion King) on Feb.11th, and a behind-the scenes experience of the staging of Dance Sport on DWC dancers, by award-winning choreographer, Harrison McEldowney, on Feb.18th. Each workshop will culminate with Lunch-Time Dance Bytes, an informal, open to the public presentation by DWC from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Workshop participants must register in advance by calling 312.337.6543. Both workshops and Lunch-Time Dance Bytes will take place at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn, Chicago.

A reception hosted by RPF, with a presentation by DWC, will be held on
Tuesday, February 19, from 5-7 p.m., to formally announce the specifics of this pilot relationship. The dance community, as well as the
community-at-large, is invited to attend. The festivities will be held,
free of charge, at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn
